In-House Laboratory Testing

Veterinary Home Healthcare offers laboratory testing for your dog or cat. There are many ways to examine, diagnose, and treat conditions and diseases in pets. When ailments aren’t obvious on the surface, laboratory testing gives us a clearer image of what the problem is and how to treat it.

When it comes to Veterinary Home Healthcare, we can come straight to your home and get the samples we need. From there, we will bring those samples back to the in-house laboratory at our clinic. You will be notified as soon as diagnostics have come through.

Examples of Laboratory Testing for Pets

Laboratory testing is frequently used to diagnose health conditions that we cannot diagnose via a physical exam. Here are some examples of procedures used that require lab testing:

Blood Tests

Just like in humans, bloodwork provides amazing insights into your animal’s health. By examining aspects of your pet’s blood such as blood cell count, glucose levels, and cholesterol levels, a lab can diagnose conditions like heartworms, Lyme disease, diabetes, and more.

Stool Tests

A stool test collects a sample of your pet’s stool and examines it for possible parasites. This sample is placed in a glass slide and put in a liquid solution. Then, it is analyzed through a microscope to detect if there are parasites such as hookworms, tapeworms, and roundworms.

Urine Tests

Urine tests can tell us a lot about your pet’s health. Results can provide insights into kidney function, show signs of bladder infection, and more. A urine test will examine color, smell, gravity (density), pH ( acidity or alkalinity), protein levels, glucose, and fragmented blood cells.
